The Java virknes klase charAt() metode atgriežas rakstzīmes vērtība pie dotā indeksa numura .
Indeksa skaitlis sākas no 0 un iet uz n-1, kur n ir virknes garums. Tas atgriežas StringIndexOutOfBoundsException, ja dotais indeksa skaitlis ir lielāks vai vienāds ar šo virknes garumu vai negatīvu skaitli.
